7 Foods to Eat After You Have Your Wisdom Teeth Removed

One of the most frustrating aspects of having your wisdom teeth removed is limiting your diet afterward. You will not be able to resume your normal dietary routine until after your mouth has been allowed to heal properly. Thankfully, there are a wide variety of delicious and soft foods that you can utilize as you’re recovering from wisdom tooth surgery. Listed below are nutritious foods that are easy to eat as you heal from the removal of your wisdom teeth.

1. Soup

For the first few days after your wisdom tooth removal, you will want to eat only liquid foods. Soup is a great option for your meals but make sure you don’t purchase any soups that may involve chewing. Blended soups are the best choice to avoid any further irritation after surgery.

2. Smoothies and Ice Cream

Smoothies and ice cream will fit perfectly with your all liquid diet after surgery. Even better, the cold of the ice cream or frozen fruit will help reduce inflammation in your gums. Smoothies are a great meal replacement as you can fit a lot of nutrition into a blended smoothie by throwing in a variety of fruits and vegetables.

3. Smooth Dips

Dips like hummus and guacamole can be eaten after wisdom tooth surgery as long as you avoid the chips. It may feel a little weird to eat hummus directly off of a spoon, but you won’t hurt your mouth by doing so.

4. Oatmeal

Oatmeal is both nutritious and soft. You can swallow oatmeal without having to chew at all. If you find yourself becoming sick of all the liquid food in your diet after surgery, oatmeal is a hardy option that will leave you feeling full and satisfied.

5. Scrambled Eggs

A few days after your surgery, you can switch from all liquid food to other soft foods such as scrambled eggs. Fluffy scrambled eggs make a great transition from liquid food and as long as you slowly change your eating habits, you won’t injure the site of your tooth removal.

6. Mashed Potatoes

Mashed potatoes are soft and delicious. You’ll want to make sure your mashed potatoes are as blended as possible, not leaving many chunks. To get your potatoes creamy so that they are easier to eat, use extra butter or milk. Peel your mashed potatoes before you cook them as the skin can be bit rough and require chewing.

7. Apple Sauce

Apple sauce is a great snack to have on hand if you’re recovering from a wisdom tooth removal. You’ll be limited on the amount of snack foods you are able to eat after surgery so stock up with several packages of apple sauce in case you get hungry in between meals.

Recovering from your wisdom tooth removal doesn’t have to mean you don’t eat yummy foods. Grab your favorite soft or liquid food items and enjoy them as you rest from surgery. If you take the time to let yourself heal after surgery, you’ll be back to eating your regular meals in no time.
