Foods That Naturally Whiten Teeth

Having white teeth is a huge draw for many people in today’s society. A beautiful, white smile is a great thing to want since it definitely adds a lot more confidence to a person’s self-esteem. Not to mention, a white smile means healthy teeth and oral health overall. White teeth make for great photos and more smiles since it makes people proud to show off those pearly whites. Even though whitening treatments and other whitening processes exist, it can be nice to do things naturally to help along the way. One of the easiest and best ways to help your teeth stay white or become whiter naturally is by eating foods that naturally whiten your teeth.

Strawberries

I don’t think many people would complain about eating strawberries. In fact, strawberries are a popular fruit and are usually available year-round in grocery stores. They’re readily available and healthy which makes them one of the number one options for natural teeth whitening. Strawberries contain malic acid which naturally removes surface stains on teeth.

Nuts

It’s common for people to exfoliate their skin because this removes and junk that has built up such as dead skin cells. The same bodes true for teeth as well. Junk can build up on teeth even with regular brushing habits. Nuts, due to their texture, act as an exfoliator for teeth and help remove the junk that builds up on our teeth.

Baking Soda

Back in the day, baking soda was used often for brushing teeth. A box of it would sit next to the sink, people would wet their brushes, stick it in the box, and pull out a toothbrush full of baking soda. Many kinds of toothpaste still come with baking soda included as an ingredient. That’s because baking soda acts as a sort of bleacher for your teeth. It helps to naturally whiten them by removing surface stains.

Oranges and Pears

We all know oranges are acidic themselves. They’re seen as citrus fruit and all it takes is getting that juice in your eye one time to realize how acidic they can be. However, did you know they and pears neutralize acid as well? That’s right, oranges and pears neutralize the acid in your mouth which causes decay to your teeth. It’s kind of like a Tums for your mouth.

Water

If you enjoy drinking coffee or wine, be sure to have a glass of water with it. You may notice people will order coffee and water at the same time when eating out. This is because it’s good to swish water around in your mouth in between drinks of coffee, wine, tea, or any other drink or food that can cause staining. Water effectively rinses away any debris and excess liquids to minimize the effects of staining from these items.

Our team provides general dentistry in Gilbert with a patient-first approach.

Overall, any foods high in fiber that are rougher such as broccoli, celery, apples, etc. can help naturally whiten your teeth. The biggest aspect is noticing that if you just eat healthier and drink water more than anything, you can truly enhance that white smile and keep it that way.
