In the world of dentistry, there are countless treatments that help people enjoy their smile or continue to love it. Some of these treatments may be unknown to many while others are very common. Among the various treatments in dentistry, some are referred to as cosmetic treatments. Many of these cosmetic treatments can be very popular. Here is a look at some of the most popular cosmetic treatments in dentistry.
Tooth Whitening
Although this isn’t a necessary need, it’s a plus to have available since staining is almost impossible to avoid over the years. Most whitening is done either by a bleaching tray or laser whitening. Most whitening treatments can be completed in two days, sometimes less, depending on the methods available. Nobody enjoys having yellowed teeth which is why whitening treatments are so popular.
Invisalign
If you haven’t heard of Invisalign yet, you’re missing out. This is for those who would like to avoid the traditional braces. Of course, this isn’t an option for everyone needing braces but, it helps quite a few people avoid having to deal with those metal brackets on their teeth. Invisalign is a plastic-like tray that’s clear and fits right onto your teeth. It’s removable and hardly noticeable at all. Since it was released to the public in the early 2000’s, it has quickly grown in popularity.
Composite Bonding
If you’ve ever chipped a tooth and had it repaired, odds are, they used composite bonding to fix it. They use a composite material which is placed in the area of the broken tooth and shaped to the right size. Once dry, it looks like nothing ever happened and your tooth is as strong as it was before.
Veneers
Veneers are a great option for those that don’t have the option of whitening or for those that a simple whitening won’t work for. Veneers are often made out of porcelain and they work like a shell to correct things such as discoloration, chips, damage, etc. Your Dentistry Guide states that, “…unlike whitening, veneer application is an invasive procedure that requires the permanent alteration of your natural teeth.” In other words, whitening is a simple procedure that doesn’t alter the state of your teeth. With veneers, there’s not really an option to go back.
Gum Contouring (Gingival Contouring)
If you’ve ever been bothered by how much your gums show when you smile, you’re not alone. This is actually a common concern for people and is cosmetically altered often. There are a few ways to go about it including surgery, laser treatment, sculpting, etc. This often has to be conducted by a specialist.
There are a few more common cosmetic treatments that are popular among dentistry. However, that list could go on for a while. Most of these treatments are so popular they speak for themselves and don’t need explaining.
